bill haas steps back. ian: yeah, 17 yards and trying to punch an 8-iron out of here. bill: even for his final round. >> that one came out quick as well. bill: pretty much center of the green. just about hole high. well, tonight a special tribute to a television pioneer, don hewitt, on the broadcast he created, 60's minutes. plus new episodes of big brother and "here goes the neighborhood" followed by "cold case" request. that's all tonight here on cbs. wyndham championship, greensboro, north carolina. sedgefield country club built in the mid 1920's.

don't ross design and we have an exciting final round. we have three at 16 under. kevin stadler, the son, of course, of masters champion craig stadler, and a win here would get kevin into the 2010 masters. his dad craig won the green jacket in a playoff back in 1982. he's not thinking about that right now. he's thinking about trying to get through this playoff. he had a chance to win it but made bogey on the 72nd hole and sergio garcia has been battling it today. had a nice start but then really struggled and now will be faced with a difficult bunker shot. looks like he's going to come up just short. at one point sergio had a three-shot lead. he'd gotten it to 18 under with

6:03 pm
just sort of hung on a little bit in the middle of the round. bill: slowly bringing it back. he's had three top-20 finishes in his last three starts. riley at plus three. now sergio. if he holes this then he's in the placement ian: oh, no! so close. >> that's about right. ian: seve ballesteros won his first tour event back in 1978 and i thought it might have been an omen there for sergio garcia on this bunker. what a fantastic shot. bill: that was almost cruel. you could feel it. socked we.
6:04 pm
that close. now that will make him feel a little bit better. ian: one inch from the playoff. bill: they appreciate him being here and they appreciate his fine performance this week. he finishes with 70. >> i don't think anybody hit the ball better, billy. that's about the first putt he's madeonn ie lastn 2 hos.le ian: that's right. he struggled on the greens. what a gem. bill: worth another look. ian: half an inch. bill: how did that stay out?

bill: look at sergio's face as he tracks the golf ball. ian: he's known for having a fantastic bunker game. just like his compatriots seve and olazabal. geniuses around the greens. that was unlucky. bill: ryan moore. he saw that -- yeah, just missed it. so now there are going to be two other guys. ian: well, it was a last-minute decision for him to come here and i'm sure all the people in the greensboro area and the wyndham folks are happy he did. bill: chris riley. that sums it up right there. ian: it's a shame. three putts there on 16 and 18. bill: a 74, and that will be good enough to get him into the field at the barclays.
6:06 pm
meanwhile, sergio -- ian: it was a disappointing last 12 holes. bill: so sergio garcia one inch short of making the playoff. it will be moore, kevin stadler, and jason bohn. ne

6:11 pm
so let's take a look once again at the most difficult hole on the golf course, the 18th. ian: it certainly is a tough one. just straight down. you hit over the crest of the hill and try and land it in the downslope of the fairway and run it down as far as possible. the difficulty is the second shot. you're firing off a severe downslope, firing uplittle through a treacherous green with a back hole location. you have to make some good shots to make a par. >> holding the hat for the >> holding the hat for the draw. bobby long is going to be with us. chairman of the foundation that runs the tournament. jason, you finished first so you'll draw first. ryan, you can draw second and
6:12 pm
kevin, you draw third. we're going to play for the playoff. you'll hit third. jason? two. kevin? you'll leadoff. gentlemen, play well. ian: that's a good thing. he drew number one. maybe he could be number one at the end of this. bill: this is new territory for these guys. between the three, only ryan moore has ever been in a pga tour playoff and lost to adam scott at the byron nelson last year. bill: kevin rinker is down there. involved with the vacation group at wyndham. they have done a tremendous job this weekend as has bobby long
6:13 pm
and his team. stadler. ian: god solid swing. down the right side again. he got a better break this time. that's just fine. i know it's just in that first cut but he was a yard right of that before in a horrendous lie and had to chip it short of the water. bill: now ryan moore. ian: he will go the opposite direction, aim towards the left-hand side and try and fade it back into play. also a long hitter, has no trouble getting it back over the hill. bill: played this hole one over.
6:14 pm
ian: certainly sounded solid. that's a beautiful shot. >> you got a feel like you're one up. that's right in the middle. bill: that's perfect. still rolling. ian: look at that, billy. that's almost to the bottom of the hill. bill: the golf course has really dried out today. we saw the scenes earlier from all the rain we've had. that wouldn't have gone anywhere. ian: that one is 50 yards past kevin stadler. bill: so ryan feeling pretty good. now jason bohn, who was first in at 16 under, 62. ian: not as long off the tee as the other two. >> baby cut, going off the right side. bill: that will go in the first cut as well. so one player in the fairway, two in the first cut. we'll be back with more of eh@ wyndham championship after this wyndham championship after this message.

i'm russ mitchell, cbs muss in new york. now we send you back to golf. bill: we're back. once again the lineup tonight on cbs. a special tribute to don hewitt on the broadcast he created, "60 minutes." ryan moore hit a huge drive that went all the way down the slope 351 yards. there it is, just on the other side of that shadow of the tree. the other two players are in the first cut. combined the three in the final round, 17 under par. so they did what they had to do. ian: jason bohn, six brird -- birdies and an eagle, no bogeys. they played the best. bill: we haven't had a playoff here in a wile who. the last one was at forest oaks in 1998.
6:18 pm
trevor dods beat scott verplank. since then it's ended in regulation every year. >> that's where ryan moore is way down there. only 30 yards short of the water. 350 yards off the tee. >> yeah, he's got 50 yards on the other two, which is a huge advantage. he'll be going here with a short iron whereas the other two won't have the chance to spin it or hit as precise a shot. >> they'll have to hit great shots to get it on the green the distance they have. bill: his dad won here in 19 0. kevin was about two months old. ian: the middle of the green would be a really good shot from there. he'll have a similar shot to
6:19 pm
the one we just saw sergio garcia almost make. that wasn't that bad. that was only five or six yards left of the edge of the green. not a terrible shot. bill: how's jason's lie here, david? >> he's just in the first cut. slightly better lie than kevin had. again, it's going to be a big swing. bill: thanks, bobby. jace season just happy to be here. he didn't think 16 under would be enough. ian: he hit a 6-iron here in regulation play. he had that really good solid swing, follow followed it through. bill: first hole of sudden death. three-way playoff.
6:20 pm
ian: he'll depend on the life. that may just be on a slight downslope. downhill lie. that's what makes this such a tough finishing hole. so hard to hit it high. you have to make sure you go with the slope. as i said before, like gary player. chase after it, chase through it. that's the key. >> anywhere right of the flag, really. ian: yes. >> it's no guarantee that ryan moore is going to hit this close. you hate to let a guy win it on par. ian: about 30 feet right of the cup the ball will feed in towards the cup as well. bill: well, the stage is clear for him. >> he's got -iron. ian: such a huge advantage. bill: the other two players in the greenside bunker. ian: look for this a little
6:21 pm
short, right of the hole. 8-iron. >> it's low and right at it. bill: well, he'll be able to give it a go. safely on the green. sudden d im im championship. with life insurance from prudential. hey dad, what's life insurance? well, life insurance is something parents buy, so in case something happens to them, you kids will be ok. oh. do we have life insurance? yeah, we do. good. yeah. it is good. ♪

bill: fedexcup playoff picture in focus now. the players out of the field next week, matt jones, rich beem, and charles warren. kevin stadler has played himself in and depending on how he finishes, that will determine his rank.

chris riley as well, and look down from above. snoopy one providing our views of sedgefield country club. look to the skies for the metlife blimps as they pass through a town near year. well, we saved the best for last weather-wise. it has been a gorgeous day, after all the rain we've had. this golf course, the beautiful donald ross design has accorded itself well here in the closing round. jason bohn will go first from the bunker. >> certainly the more difficult of the bunker shots. he'll need to spin it as much as possible. ian: make sure you're up and well to the left of the hole. bill: tried to get a little too delicate with it. >> you know, and that's the last -- you can throw this up to the fringe behind the hole
6:24 pm
and it will come all the way back down to the flag. there's a couple of ways to play this. ian: but not that way. >> that wasn't one of them. ian: try and lift it into the air. not down and through it. obviously a little muddy, that lie. >> he was attempting to get shallow to spin it more. bill: stadler has a different shot but does this get into his head as well? ian: it could but it's a totally different lie. he's thinking about hitting this inside three feet. this is not a hard shot. bill: oh, that was nice. ian: see difference in the sound? the zip on that one? beautiful shot, kevin stadler. bill: and jason will climb back in. his second shot from the bunker. ian: and unfortunately it's not two-tie, all-tie. >> this is the one he usually hits stitch, but that won't do.
6:25 pm
bill: he needs to hole this. ian: unfortunately for jason, he won't be there. this is the first one. you just see the club at least four inches short of where he wanted it. that was fat. trying to lift it up in the air. a little shallow with it. the key to that shot is to make sure your weight stays left and you get a thunk down in behind the ball. make sure you keep turning through it. >> well, that leaves ryan moore with an interesting -- i think he has to go ahead and try and make this. it's going to be left-to-right the first part and then sort of straightening if anything at the end. he certainly doesn't want to
6:26 pm
jam it by and leave kevin stadler, who doesn't have an easy putt. he would love to leave it up the hill, not down. a lot of different things can happen here. he's got to stay positive, at least try and get the ball to the hole. ian: he had eight birdies today, so he obviously is putting well, david. it's difficult to get these uphill putts to the hole but the good thing is this is a difficult hole to three-putt. he can be aggressive with this and try and make it. bill: young man with tremendous amateur record. won just about everything. now to taste victory on the pga tour. ian: well, it wasn't a bad putt. just lacked a little bit of speed. we've seen it all day here at the 18th. everyone's been short and low. so jason bohn is done now. he's out of it.
6:27 pm
he will tie second with whoever doesn't win. now kevin stadler to tie that young man. both looking for their first victory on the pga tour. it's a big moment. bill: this is a little bit of a slider. ian: it is. a little right to left. >> it doesn't matter if it's fast tor slow. this is one that just has to go in. bill: and it does. ian: well holed. good up and down. bill: so we'll have a first-time winner on the pga tour. it's come down to moore and stadler and they will go to a second hole of sudden death. and let's go back, because they will now play the 10th. the 44-yard par 4.
6:28 pm
ian: and it's a totally different look from the tee here. you have to fire down into the gully and it starts turning up the hill around the left-hand bunker you can see. there's the hole location, back in the back left. uphill second shot. and once with again, one of the tougher holes. third toughest hole today, averaging four 1/4. hard to get it close. but you have to hit it in the fairway, that's the key. whatever they feel comfortable with it, get it in the short grass. bill: we mentioned that kevin stadler has never been in a playoff on the pga tour. ryan moore has. he lost that to adam scott. but kevin's first two wins on the nationwide tour were in playoffs, including one over bubba watson. let's turn things over to peter oosterhuis. >> thank you, bill. 175 yards to reach the bunker on the left. a lot of players giving up on
6:29 pm
the driver, just trying to find the fairway. just a fairway metal wood for stadler. >> up the right-hand side and drawing. looks like a beautiful shot. >> looked as if he was very confident. didn't waste any time. i think that's his general matter. but he's in a good spot. uphill all the way on the second shot. first things first. find the fairway. absolutely certainly. ryan moore, an exceptional drive on the last hole. >> 3-wood in hand now and i think this is the right play, oosty, don't you? >> just finding the fairway. can't afford to find the bunker. it's going to be a terrence long way out of the bunker uphill. look how far his body -- everything is aligned way left. and he makes adjustment at the top of the backswing. ian: this is sort of a
